Last call for some more autumn pictures from the Northern lands of Denmark. Even if it was a grey and cloudy day, as so often in Denmark in November :)
But packed Camera gear, FujiFilm X-T4 + Fujinon 16-55 F2.8. And my DJI mini 5 pro drone for some areal shots :)
First stop was "Svanelunden" in Hjørring, a small city park in the middle of the town Hjørrning, that my photo buddy recommended. I never knew it existed. And i used to work in the town, many years ago. I even exited the train daily for 5 years, 100 meters away... Never wondering what was behind the trees. Its a beatiful place, also dressed in autumn colors.
Next stop was a viking village called Yxengaard, located in a small forest in Tornby plantage, also located in the norther part of Denmark. A little background story on the place:
Yxengaard is an outdoor historical village and pedagogical learning center tucked inside the coastal forest of Tornby Klitplantage in North Jutland, Denmark.
The Concept
Founded by Claus Gajhede, Yxengaard was established as an alternative educational space blending cultural history, ancient craftsmanship, and live action roleplay (LARP/ELARP). Instead of traditional indoor classrooms, the village offers hands-on immersion—such as blacksmithing, woodworking, outdoor cooking, and historic combat—designed to build confidence, practical skills, and social inclusion for youth and vulnerable groups. You can explore the project's background and visit requirements on the Yxengaard Official Website.
Challenges and Revival
After more than two years of quiet and operational pause following municipal funding cuts, Yxengaard has entered an active revival. Together with historical groups like the combat troupe Noorulf, Gajhede initiated community workdays to clear pathways, repair timber longhouses, and rebuild community engagement around the site.
