I dont know how many blog post i have with, "its been a while". But now it has again !

I'm still doing a lot of both tech and photography, but i rarely get around to posting something. But today i finally sat down and edited som picture i shot a week or so again, and these 3 i ended up actually liking. The camera was the usual Fujifilm X-100 VI. And its also my usual bridge :). But this time i got a new angle i think. Its always hard with something you have a thousand + pictures of. There is a lot of construction work going on at the moment, but the darkness concealed that part nicely. And absolutely no AI involved, well except in building this blog site.

Summer Street in Aalborg

Yesteday i was on my way to the cinema, to catch the movie "Disclosure Day" with my son, and since the weather was supernice, actually almost to nice, 27-28 degrees Celcius in Denmark is like really hot !! I decide to walk through the town and take some picture along the way. Camera is as always when doing street, the Fujifilm X-100VI.

The first two pictures here are two variants of the same theme, i just noticed it walking up the stairs in front, that the garbage bin was actually making a very nice frame for the woman sitting on the bench reading a book

Nr 2 picture here is my favourite, it just gives a very nice framing on what she was doing, reading a book on a nice summerday.

After the movie was done, and Disclosure day, comes highly recommended, whether you are into the genre or not ! its just a damn good movie.

On my way home, walking along the harbor in Aalborg, with the sun coming straight against i just noticed this young man who just had a swim, and the nice golden summerlight making the perfect framing, and with the bridge opening in the background, another good picture in my mind. A real street photo

For this picture i had to turn around :) i was walking the other way, but shooting into the sun, did not work for all the nice colors in this picture. And for those outside Denmark, its a bottle container, and in Denmark you get money for certain empty bottles/Cans if you hand them in. So guess he was looking for a little extra money, but the framing was just so nice.

One of the pictures im still debating with myself if i like, i like the way she is lies in the chair, and the light coming in highlighting his gray hair. This is the city version of going to the beach :)

Fujikina Copenhagen 2026

Recently i took a roadtrip with my good buddy Bogdan to Copenhagen, to visit Fujikina, for some photography goodness. And i actually had to convince myself to go, something about breaking habit when you are 50+plus :) Good i have younger friends to kick me a little, was good to get out, seeing some fujifilm people from our local danish Fujifilm group from Facebook.

Not a lot of photography on the way to Copenhagen, as we drove almost 4 1/2 hours nonstop from Aalborg to Copenhagen, but we needed the charging stop, and a coffee, so we stopped in Nyborg to charge the car, and in good spirits as you can see :)

We drove friday afternoon, and arrived in Copenhagen friday evening, just in time to go and and do some street photos in Copenhagen, and get a feel for the town. Just getting out is sometime the magic you need to start taking photos again. And Copenhagen was generous to us :)

After a good nights sleep, we were ready fo hit Fujikina :) I mainly talked to people from the community, and saw some great photo talks, from street, documentaty, fashion etc. Was very inspiring. And very good use of a weekend. :) I feel like taking photos again !

First spring pictures

It was not the first day of spring anymore, almost more like the first day of summer, with temperatures approaching 23 degrees celcius, even though we are early in may. And i agreed with a good friend we needed to get out a little and take some pictures, before the photographic skills withers.

Its not "great" pictures, but i had a nice trip out to a place i have never taken pictures before, even though its pretty close to my home. And sometimes that is enough. I will probably always love my street photos more. Cause that is just my "Thing". But just getting out is also fine, i need to get out more an take pictures !! :)

The first mountain bike trip of the year almost killed me

Well it for sure almost killed my Cardio, well hard to do that if it does no really exist. Which todays trip proved for me, i was on the first ride of the year at my local mtb track in Hvorup in Nørresundby. Aka where i live in the northern part of Jutland Denmark. Its a trip we have ridden many times before. But the first ride of the year, and we were not in shape, but it was fun and get got the MTB Season started for the year, hopefully it will be a little better next time :)

The weather forecast looks promising in Denmark today

With that i mean, that when i look outside my windows there is a storm :) and from DMI (Danish weather forecast) they predict windspeeds of up to 37 ms, which is close to hurrican speeds. So planning for a trip to Hirtshals on the West Coast of Jutland, Denmark. I want to see big waves hammering in :) The local media says up to 11 meters waves. Lets see, i have convinced friend to go with me.

Well that was past me, who wrote wrote that. Next up the local authorities said, dont go out driving unless absolutely necessary , and stay inside. I complied with some of it. I did not drive, but i did take a walk in the storm, at the local harbor here in Aalborg where i live. And damn that was windy, you really had to lean into the wind to walk at all, and the gusts was suddenly pushing you from behind. Scary and fun at the same time. But i got some storm pictures, and lets see if my little camera survives all the salt water.

Migrating Wordpress to Pelican after 20 years

My first post from Obsidian Directly

So from a couple of days ago and until to now i have been having a blog done in Wordpress, since like 2005. Used some times, and some times not over the years. Used for Tech and Photos and life. Many years it was hosted at wordpress, then a couple of years ago i got tired of too little diskspace, so i selfhosted it at home in my home lab, running an LXC in ProxMox. It has been rock stable, never had an issue.

But after 20 years of doing the same platform i needed to try something new. Plus i had some alone time for myself in the easter Holliday here in Denmark, and had time for a project.

I have been thinking about this for some time, and what i ended up with, is definitely over engineered but fun !.

Both at work and at home we use a lot of markdown. And i use Obsidian a lot for both work and personal life, which is build on markdown as the center piece. So this is the setup i came up with

I wanted Obsidian as the Editor
I wanted all my files and pictures to live in Github, so i can easily spin up a new site
I wanted a static site with pure HTML (Ended with Pelican, that could also import my existing post and images with a little AI help)
I wanted the site to still run on my ProxMox on my docker host
I want to expose it using nginx(Might need something else there soon) & cloudflare tunnel
I wanted a Github Pipeline that would push posts from Obsidian to Github and on to my local system when ever a new post arrive

Took a day or two to make, with a lot of AI Help from Github CoPilot, and learned a lot, and that was the main intention. The website is static files, that is easy to move, automate whatever i want to do in the future.

I feel like using a keyboard (And perhaps getting a new one :))

I dont know if this blog post will ever hit the internet, i just felt like using the keyboard a little, today i use my Logitech MX Keys full size keyboard. Probably because im looking a new mechanical keyboards. So lets use this post to share my thoughts about this process. Maybe i can flesh out for myself, what it is i actually want.I actually like this keyboard, its almost silent, has a nice feel to it, a nice typing experience, almost like the laptop keyboards i use on my MacBook pro, and and Work Laptop Lenovo T14. Which actually both has keyboards i like, not for superlong writing sessions, not that i actually have a lot of those, but still :)

I need something with a little more "Ohhmmfp", at least that is what i think. I have earlier on owned some Keychron Keyboards. Lets see if i can remember which ones:

The K3 Low profile was my first, and i really liked the look of it, but i was mistyping on it constantly, and it seemed to flimsy for my liking, so ended up selling it again, also did not like the sound of it.The next one i tried was the K6 Pro, also from Keychron, a 65% Keyboard, that in my eyes looks sweet (I grew up with build like a tank IBM keyboards in the 80/90ties). It sounds fantastic when typing on it, and felt smooth. But it also had issues for me at least.

65% has to little buttons for me, always felt like i was missing some keys, the lack of a delete button drove me me mad ! :) But also arrow button
I got a mouse arm when using it, not totally sure that it was the reasons.

So i ended up selling that one too.Both at work and at home i now have the Logitech MX Keys, which is nice, but i miss the creamy sound of the mechanical keyboard, at least i think i do !!

Let the hunt begin for my dream keyboard

ICE ICE baby

Today the sun was out, finally, and i had to get out and take some pictures, to see what the coldest winter in Denmark in years looks like. So with a friend we loaded the cameras (My trusty Fujifilm X-T4 and a couples of lenses Fujis 16-55F2.8 and the 50-140F2.8).

We drove to a small danish town called Sæby, on the east coast of Jutland, where my parents lives for +20 years. Which has a very photogenic harbour, and with lots of wind from the east, we could see the ice piling up on the rocks.After getting some very nice pictures, we decided to go to another small town with a harbour called Asaa, also on the east coast of Jutland with a population of ca. 1000 people. And a favourite among families for childen friendly beaches in summer. But it also has a charm in the winter :) but judge for yourself.

It has been one of the coldest winters in many years in Denmark, and this weekend the snow returned with full force, so i had to get out and take some pictures.

And last week i bought a new lens that has been on my wishlist for a while, or at least new to me, it was pre owned. So scoped one up in the local facebook group for Fujifilm gear here in Denmark for a decent price. Its the lens that completes my zooms(Already had the 16-55 F2.8, and the 50-140 F2.8). Its the Fujinon 10-24 F4 lens, and it was mounted on my trusty X-T4.

So i pulled on some very varm winter clothes cause its freezing outside here, camera around my neck and went out into the winter weather. To get some shots with the new lens. I still did take most at the narrow end of 24, aka close to 35mm fullframe.A little later i met up with my son for a nice dinner on the local streetfood getting some nice nepalese Momos ! :) The Chili ones gave the varmth to continue the trip out in the cold afterwards.And after a nice dinner with my son, its back into the cold to get some more winter pictures ! For me, snow is a little like fog, its transforms something you have seen a thousand times into something "New", and that lights my passion for photography again :)

The Whale

Last week a whale was beached in the norther part of Denmark was beached, i Ålbæk, a very small town that you usually only hear about in the summer part of the year. It was a sperm whale. The Danish term is a "Kaskelot Hval" so no where close :).

But this was the first time in 16 years that a whale has beached, and those whales are pretty rare to see in Denmark. So me and my friend Bogdan had to go actually see it and bring our cameras, cause it would be dragged away for autopsy the next day. Lets just say, we were not the only ones.

But here a week after, and the autopsy is done, its a pretty sad story. It choked on fishing nets ;(. Our first whale in 16 years, and it dies due to us polluting the ocean.

I'm glad we paid tribute by going to the beach that day in freezing temperatures. Rest in peace my dear whale.

Foggy winter nights in 2026

I dont think its the first time have used that headline, but that is my absolutely favourite photography weather, fog just cleans up the world(Well in a visual sense, sadly not more in these days of strife in the world), and together with a little bit of winter darkness in Denmark its the perfect setting for both color and black and white photography. It was cold, and not really weather i wanted to get out in, but some of the pictures i love the most, was in fog. So out i went for around 1-2 hours walk around the harbour area.

Seems like 2026 is off to a good photography start ! Happy shooting out there !

From a recent trip with my dad out to look at the snow and ice in Nibe, Denmark which is little town by the "Limfjorden" in the northern part of den. an its been a long time since i have photographed any snow.
It's been a week since the trip at the writing of this post, and most of the snow and ice is gone again and the weather have warmed up a bit. But still looks like we might have the coldest January in almost 20 years if the weather forecast is right, and they rarely are ! :)

Camera of choice for this trip was my Fujifilm X-T4 + the Fujilm lenses Fujinon 16-55 F2.8, Fujinon 50-140 F2.8. Edited to black and white in Lightroom with Acros as the base as it kind of suited the winter theme.

Vibecoding a batch image resizer

I take a lot of pictures, a lot ! With my Fuji Cameras (X-T4 and X-100VI and sometimes analog pictures on film), which i usually take home and post process in Lightroom. I don't post most of my pictures on this blog cause i'm a lazy blogger, and don't always know what to write about the pictures. I like the pictures, but i'm not that good at writing about them. "The Story" behind the pictures.

Usually i poston Facebook or Instagram, where the "Algorithm" handles the image compression for me, as i usually don't bother to optimize it for it, and my JPEGs are usually +10 Megabyte, which is not very good for a website, and the defaults Wordpress settings also does not allow you to upload those(I'm self hosting, so could change it myself... but.... :) )

But a while back, while i was doing a python course, i did this small python script. https://merloch.dk/2023/10/28/my-first-public-github-script-is-posted-for-optimizing-images-on-this-blog/ and yes it was one of my first self developed apps(So be gentle! :)), i will also be updating that, to make a better CLI version.That could run through all the images in you media folder (Or any folder) and resize all of them, so they would be smaller, and the site load faster. Worked fine, but was kinda a one off operation, Not suitable for everyday use, for batch conversion of X amount of pictures.

Yesterday, i wanted to upload a lot of pictures to a new blogpost, but they were in different folders, taken on different days, they were all +5 megabyte. There are several tools probably out there, but i wanted to make one myself with a little help from som AI tools :) My initial requirements were:

It needed to be a container app, so i could run it on Linux, Mac and Windows(Using WSL), Using Docker or Docker Compose.
It should still be Python, cause that is the language i know best, and i still want to review what the AI is creating.
I wanted a web based front end, so it was easy to reach from my different PC's in my house.
I wanted it so be safe to use on a local network (DO NOT USE ON THE Internet, it's not build for that security wise).
I wanted it to be themed modern and simple
I wanted documentation in markdown in a readme.md file.
I wanted it to support resizing of JPG and PNG(And Convert between these), cause these are the outputs i use for my blog, and what Lightroom outputs after my photo edits.
I wanted a balance between image quality and resolution, to hit a specific target of XX kb. So currently i have a floor of 25% on quality, after it hits that, it will start scaling down the resolution
I wanted all pictures to be downloadable in one zip file after conversion.
I wanted all the uploaded pictures to be deleted from the docker host after an hour, so only using tmp storage
If i uploaded the wrong pictures, i wanted to be able to delete all and start a new session.

So i fired up VS Code, with Github CoPilot, using Claude Opus 4.5, and got to working. Using the plan mode with the above requirements, and asked to make a plan for implementation, and then it was back and forth for a couple of hours, and i made my own "Keis Image Compress" in bright Neon Colors. Feel free to try it out. You can find it on my Github here. https://github.com/anderskeis/pycompressweb comes with absolutely no guarantees, but it's pretty nice for a photographer running a blog :)
Personally i run it on a central Linux box, hosting all my docker containers, and its reachable from everywhere on my local network.

Winter is here

So winter finally arrived in Denmark, or at least in the part of Denmark where i live. Has been a couple of years since there has come this much snow, global warming and all. But yesterday the snow we have been missing all Christmas came pouring down. And i had to get out with the camera and enjoy the new winter landscape in my hometown.And for some reason snow just ignites my lust for going out and taking pictures, things you see everyday is suddenly "new" again, and for me that does the "trick", just like going on a holliday, where you see new stuff all around you, so i went out again when the darkness arrived, which it does pretty early here in the beginning of january.And this is a major winter spam post, so next day i wanted to get out again, since even more snow arrived during the night. And there was SUN, also a rare sight here at Winter :)

Bash script for updating with docker Compose

In my summer Holliday, i decided i wanted to get to know docker a little better, i have been playing it with it now and then through the years, but never really had my own setup. And what better way to learn, than doing some of your hobby projects. I have my Proxmox server running different things, and im already running a couple of LXC's for that one.

And this wordpress siteThis has been running flawless so far, but it still has some overhead compared to docker, plus i really wanted to learn something by doing it :) So i setup a Ubuntu server, and installed Docker, played around with it, and quickly figured out i needed Docker compose, to make things a little easier when updating. Declarative for the win :). I also installed Portainer to get a little GUI insight into what was going on, and its a great tool for getting a overview.But back to the purpose of this blog post, updating with docker compose, its pretty simple from the command line, when you have your compose.yaml (docker-compose.yml etc etc). Updating is

docker compose pull
docker compose up -d

And your application is up and running again, im not diving into how everything docker compose is working, ask your nearest LLM about that :)

I have installed all my stacks(My docker applications) in /opt/stacks, so there is a folder for each application (N8N, Netstat, Portainer etc.) And i would still have to SSH into my box, go to all the directories and run the above commands, and surely there is a better way to do that. So i created a small bash script, that starts with a folder & name of yaml file input. And iterates through all the folders and updates all the applications. There is probably other ways to do this, but this was my first attempt, and it works great. I have put it into a Cronjob, so it runs weekly :)

Vibe coding an Obsidian Vault with Office 365 For meetings notes, and people notes 🚀

Ever wished your Obsidian notes could magically fill themselves with your latest meetings, complete with attendees, links, and all the context you need?Well not totally, there is a lot more to it, than just that. Let me take you back a little, i was a One Note guy for many years, cause i come from a Microsoft back ground, many tries and systems for making it work, never really worked for me in a "work" context, and for private note i prefer my analogue way, with the Travellers notebook. But for work i like digital, i work as an IT Architect, so it's kind of in my blood :)

So someday i stumbled over Obsidian, which tickled my inner nerd, notes in Markdown, no hard binding to some proprietary system, just Mark Down, and a good system for taking notes. An one day i stumbled across Dan Bergs system for meeting notes (And i have A LOT of meetings). Which i really likes, its an awesome system. With Meeting notes, and People Notes, but in a 35K People company, it takes a long time to create the Meetingnotes, and the people you are meeting with. And i thought i already got this info in my Office 365 Calendar (Yes we are a Microsoft shop). And thought, can't it get that info from there into Obsidian, without manually entering the data for every meeting ? So i set out to build a sync engine, that could sync people and meeting info from my calendar into Office365. So i wanted to create a python script(cause that is what i knew) to do just that. And it was also a learning excercise in Learning Vibe Coding with Github CoPilot is VS Code

What is obsidian-meeting-sync?

obsidian-meeting-sync is a Python-powered command-line tool that connects to my Office 365 calendar via the Microsoft Graph API, fetches my meetings, and exports them as well structured Obsidian markdown notes. It’s designed for anyone(aka me right now :) who wants to keep their meeting notes organized, searchable, and linked—without manual copy-pasting of people and notes, when using Danns system

How Does It Work?

Authenticate:
The tool authenticates you with Microsoft Graph using MSAL. On Windows, you can use the WAM broker for a native experience.

See your meetings in a pretty table. Pick one to sync, or sync them all.
Export to Obsidian:
Meeting notes are generated using your template and saved in your vault. People notes are created or updated for each attendee.

Open Obsidian and marvel at your networked, queryable meeting and people notes!

Test of Fujifilm WCL II on X-100 VI

I haven’t been out shooting street photos for a while, and today the weather seemed perfect for it—cloudy, a little rainy, and with the sun occasionally peeking through. A classic moody northern light that always adds character to city scenes.

I’ve had the Fujifilm WCL-X100 II wide conversion lens for a while, but never really gave it a proper outing. It came with a used X100V I picked up some time ago, and aside from a test shot here and there, it’s mostly lived in my drawer. Today I decided to mount it and commit to using it for the entire walk, which ended up being a 10-kilometer loop around my hometown of Aalborg, Denmark.

The WCL-X100 II is a dedicated wide conversion lens for the X100 series, turning the fixed 23mm f/2 lens (equivalent to 35mm in full-frame) into a 28mm equivalent field of view. It attaches directly without affecting the aperture or autofocus, and with the II version, the camera automatically recognizes the adapter and applies the correct lens profile. It’s a subtle but noticeable difference—just enough extra width to open up street scenes and tighter alleys without distorting perspective.

It felt great to be out again, and the WCL really made the familiar streets feel a bit fresher—but also a bit strange. After years of shooting 23mm from the hip, I’m just not used to this wider field of view. So, did I like it? I mean, the images turned out great, and it definitely adds a layer of versatility when out shooting. But suddenly I find myself needing to choose lenses again… and that kind of goes against the whole philosophy of the X100 series: one lens, one mindset—move your feet.

If I want options, I can always grab my X-T4 and the range of lenses I’ve got for that. But then again, the WCL is really compact. It still keeps the setup light and unobtrusive. So yeah… I’m in doubt!

A Windy Ride for a Giant Tartelet

Today I finally cashed in my birthday present from my son: a trip to try the biggest tartelet in Nordjylland. The spot? A cozy little island in Limfjorden, just off Aalborg in Northern Denmark.

After some good-natured resistance, he agreed to meet me on the small ferry—on our bikes, of course (yes, it was windy, but hey, that’s Denmark for you 😄). With about two seconds to spare, he rolled onto the ferry, slightly out of breath after getting a bit lost on the way. But hey—we made it!Destination: Restaurant Kronborg, smack in the middle of the Limfjord. My youngest daughter works there and wasn’t thrilled we came on her day off—guess I owe her a visit soon 😉

The food? Spot on. Great tartelet, excellent craft beer from their own brewery, and a solid cup of coffee to round it off. But best of all? Quality time with my son. Can’t beat that.We biked back with the wind at our backs—much nicer than the ride out!More days like this, please. 😊

It’s early March in Aalborg, and the mornings have been extremely foggy lately. Thick mist rolls in from the Limfjord and covers everything — buildings, streets, and even the harbor — in a heavy, white blanket. Visibility drops to just a few meters, and it makes getting around a bit tricky. But for me, as a hobby photographer, it’s one of the best times to grab my camera and head out.

I shoot with a Fujifilm X100VI, and foggy mornings are where this camera really shines. The soft, diffused light makes for some great shots. No harsh shadows, no blown-out highlights — just calm, moody scenes. It’s the kind of weather that turns everyday things into interesting subjects. A person crossing the street becomes a silhouette. A row of parked bikes fades into the mist. Even the more industrial parts of Aalborg start to feel quiet and almost peaceful.

Normally, the city can feel a bit busy or messy in photos — lots of signs, traffic, and visual clutter. But the fog simplifies everything. It hides the distractions and makes you focus on shapes, light, and atmosphere. I’ve walked through familiar streets and seen them in a completely new way thanks to the fog.

I don’t have a specific plan when I go out. I just wander. Sometimes I’ll head down to the waterfront, other times I’ll stick to side streets or parks. I shoot handheld, usually in classic chrome or black and white, depending on the mood. I don’t worry too much about getting the perfect shot — it’s more about enjoying the process and seeing what the city looks like when it’s wrapped in fog.

On foggy mornings, the city takes on a totally different look — quieter, softer, and somehow cleaner. One of the places I always end up photographing is the old shipyard dry dock. My dad used to work there back in the day when it was a busy industrial site. Now it’s full of modern office buildings and IT companies. A lot has changed, but when the fog rolls in, it all gets a kind of reset. The mist smooths out the rough edges, hides the clutter, and makes the whole area feel calm and almost timeless.

I recently added a new "used" lens to the arsenal, the Fujinon 50-140 F2.8, and i already had the Fujinon 16-55 F2.8, but i have not used them that much. Im very much a X-100 Series guys, that fits 90% of my needs in the city where i usually roam. But have been wanting to try out landscape a little more than my usual street photography. And yesterday i was out in the woods in Rold Forest in Denmark, and i really struggle, nature is a mess ! :) and i came home with 200+ pictures, a lot of "light" spots in the forest, that looks nice when you walk past them, but getting home an looking at them, i dont really like them.

This one i probably like the most, i like the clear water (Should have brough a polarizer filter) you can look straight through, and the sun still shining on the trees gives a nice contrast. Its going to be a learning journey from me :)

Well the calendar says winter her in late december in Denmark, the temperature is still more like autumn aka a 6-8 degrees celcius. And this picture shows the light variation we have seen pretty good, its gray, gray and more gray. Still have to salute this woman who went for a svim, in a very cold sea.But it was great getting out a little to take some pictures, still like the photos that came out of it, and the Acros on the X-T4 came out very nice ;)

New year resolutions

With 2024 coming to an end, I’ve started thinking about the year ahead and what my New Year’s resolution for 2025 should be. As part of the process, I took a moment to review the resolutions I set for myself last year.

I keep my resolutions in a journal—not a digital one, but an old-fashioned notebook. For something as personal as this, I find that writing them down by hand feels more meaningful. It’s a space where I can be honest with myself, free from the distractions of screens and notifications.Looking back at last year’s goals, it’s interesting to see what I’ve achieved and where I’ve fallen short. Some resolutions are completed and crossed off, while others remain a work in progress. Reflecting on them has given me a clearer idea of what I want to focus on in the coming year. Or has it, we will will see. But i think i have a clearer picture of the categories, but maybe that is already to much : :)

I’ve been immersed in the world of IT for over 25 years now. That’s a quarter of a century spent wrestling with technology, exploring countless tools, and generally living and breathing the digital life. I like to think I’ve seen it all (though I know that’s probably not even close to the truth!). One thing I’ve learned about myself over these years is that I tend to get… well, obsessed. I latch onto something, a new tool, a new technique, a new anything, and I dive headfirst into it. I geek out, I research, I experiment, and I usually go all in.This year, my obsession has taken a decidedly analog turn: notebooks and fountain pens. Yes, you read that right. After decades of staring at screens, I’ve found myself drawn to the tactile experience of pen on paper. And let me tell you, it hasn’t been a casual interest. It’s been a full-blown deep dive. I’ve bought a lot of notebooks (more than I care to admit!), and I’ve spent countless hours watching YouTube videos about everything from the perfect paper weight to the nuances of different nib sizes. I’ve been on a quest to find the “perfect system” for journaling, taking work notes, and even dabbling in a bit of retro-inspired writing. There’s something incredibly satisfying about the flow of ink, the feel of the pen in my hand, and the tangible record of my thoughts on the page.

This isn’t entirely new for me. I tend to have these intense periods of focus. Last year, it was analog photography. I became fascinated with film, learning to develop my own black and white and color film. I even built a darkroom in my basement! It was a completely different world from the instant gratification of digital photography, and I loved every minute of it. But i mostly shoot digital again now, after a couple of years, there was a reason digital won the battle. I still enjoy my analog flirt once in a red moon 🙂

I think there’s a common thread running through these obsessions. Whether it’s the precision of coding, the chemical processes of film development, or the smooth glide of a fountain pen, I’m drawn to the details, the intricacies, and the tangible results. It’s a way for me to balance the abstract world of IT with something more concrete and grounded. And as the year is nearing the end, i have not used my notebooks for the last couple of months, or have become more granular is my approach to note taking in different areas. Works is not the same as journaling for personal reasons.

I really like the analog feeling when doing journaling where its just dotting down what you think and trying to get something down on paper. But for work, it does not feel efficient enough, i’m probably not organized enough(Have read/seen a lot of posts about the topic), but i feel the digital tools like OneNote, Obsidian, search and AI helps there a lot (Still have not decided on something final, guess there will be som AI help in it at least), i still need to figure out how to balance taking notes during meetings, and also listening, i think AI will be a big help there.

And hey, got a real blogpost on my blog also this year, also pretty inconsistent 🙂 Happy New year out there Internet, if this little corner of it ever reaches out of my basement.

Guide: Installing Ollama on macOS via Command Line

Ollama can be easily installed on macOS using Homebrew, a popular package manager. Below are the steps to install and verify Ollama on a Mac. You can also choose to download the installers directly from the Ollama website if you prefer that https://ollama.com/. There is always many ways to Rome as they say :). I choose to use Homebrew in this example

Step 1: Install Homebrew (if not already installed)

Homebrew is necessary for installing Ollama. If you already have Homebrew installed, you can skip to Step 2. If not, open your terminal and install Homebrew by running the following command:

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"

What does this command do?

It downloads and runs the official Homebrew installation script from GitHub.
The installation script will guide you through the process. It may ask for your password to complete the installation
Optional Check: After installation, verify that Homebrew is installed correctly by running:

  brew --version

Step 2: Install Ollama

Once Homebrew is installed, you can use it to install Ollama with the following command:

What does this command do?

I don't always go out with a plan, actually i rarely do, but these pictures are from a trip out with some friends for a good dinner during Easter. And i just grabbed the little Ricoh GRIIIx on my way out of the house, and showed it in my pocket, cause it actually fits in a pocket, which for me still is its main selling point, beyond taking really good pictures. Maybe i will get some shots, maybe i wont, but the best camera is the one you have with you !

On the way to the restaurant where i had a like 30 minutes walk, from my house to the city center, i accidentally took on of my recent favorite shots in a long time :) A girl sitting on the stairs, behind the famous party street of my hometown Aalborg "Jomfru Ane Gade", where all the bars have their behind the scenes in a fenced of area. The weird pattern in the right side is reflections in the fence I'm shooting throughI grabbed a few other shots on the way also, but not in the same league in my totally subjective opinion, but i like the gritty Hard Monotone from the little Ricoh, and they were all warmup shuts, which is actually something i do, start taking pictures in the beginning, just to get into the mindset where i actually see the scenes i want to capture.This last picture i actually do like a a little, i like that i have a nice foreground, and i tried to "frame" the person walking on the street, in the nice ray of sun that broke out suddenly on a gray day, but didn't totally succeed, aka i was to slow ! or i could not see the Ricoh screen in the sunlight :)

The restaurant, and the following bar visit, also rendered a couple of decent shots, that i really like. Black and White shooting, is good at conveying mood of a placeSo what can you learn from this, not much, but bring a camera, if taking pictures makes you happy, just a little bit ! :)

A small walk with the X-100VI, i have been watching a lot of youtube videos lately to try and improve my street photography skillsThe first two pictures here, is a good example of what i have been using for a long time, go where the light is, and work with light and shadow, which i still like to do a lot, nice simple pictures, which is more or less my trademark by now, and thats probably why im trying to do "more" nowI the next two pictures here i tried to work with "framing" my subjects in with elements in the foreground, while still have light/shadow in play.Last technique of the day, working with ICM in Architecture shooting, i do have a person in the buttom frame, but he is not so visible, but i like the picture, especially since it one i have shot a thousand times, and is quite boring, ICM inserts something "fresh" i can work with.

Evening walk with the Fuji X-100VI, for an evening of moody pictures, still getting used to the camera, but the Ibis and the 40 Megapixels is gold worth in the darkness. I'm still shooting jpg only, so limited editing possibilities, but i like the Acros film simulation straight out of camera, so pretty happy, and still much room for cropping in those files ! :)

I have not consistently been shooting black and white for any longer period of time at anytime in my life i think. But after have seen someone else's fantastic pictures in black and white, it can really do something COOL, so thought i will give it a go, plus i recently picked up a few new cameras, that i wanted to test out a little. A Fujifilm X-100VI and a Ricoh GRIIIx, yeah i know its too much, i already know I'm keeping the Fuji, cause it already was my favorite camera in its earlier iterations, but the little Ricoh is something special, its so small, has soo good IQ, is fun to use (and hard to see sometimes) and i do really like the pictures it produces, and i traded it with a good friend

The Ricoh Gr IIIx, these we are some of the first tests, they are not great in anyway, but i like the colors. I have set it up for jpg shooting, to play with the different film simulations, and see how that works out, so these are some of the first, that i like just a little. Its a very different shooting experience from my Fuji, which i usually carry in a strap around my neck. Carrying it in the hand constantly allows for another shooting experience, that i actually think compliments the Fuji, so i might need both in my life, we will see. These 2 were the first experiementsIts also very different using the digital controls on the Ricoh, compared to the analog controls on the fuji, which i still think is way easier. But Ricoh wins on the pocketability, so you really can bring it everywhere, and i guess its just a matter of using it more. Right now i have the P mode setup just for point and shoot, and a customer profile with Hard Monochrome, and a fast shutter speed to freeze street motion.I really like the pictures that comes out of the little Ricoh Gr IIIx, i like the awesome recipes. my main gripe with the camera is, that my eyes aren't what they used to be, so seeing the screen can be an issue for me without my reading glasses, and putting the optical viewfinder on it, kind of defeats the purpose with the camera.

Fujifilm X-100VI This is my third X-100 series camera, and it is by far, my most used camera of all time, its the camera that i bring on my daily shopping trips, its the camera i bring every time i go out for a walk, photo walk or not. I think its a beautiful camera, i loooove the analog controls on the camera, no screen, just the controls. I can shoot it from the hip, and still knowing what's in the frame, cause i have done it so many times. So why the X-100VI ? Ibis & 40 megapixels, i like shooting street a lot, and i do crop a lot, the extra megapixels gives me more ability there. The Ibis gives new options for night shooting at slower shutter, so for me its an iteration of a camera that i already loved :)

My first black and white pictures (shooting Black and White JPG in March 2024)I like it a lot, but to be fair, any of these pictures i could also have done with my X-100F :), so still need a lot more practice with the camera. I will end this blog post, with my favorite picture so far in my journey (while I'm looking out at another grey day in Denmark outside my window.)

At yesterdays photo trip, we came by this place at Grove, near Karup in Denmark which is wherfe some of the last remnants of World War 2 is in Denmark, and it clearly shows some of the horrible signs of war, a lot of small children dying very young, when they tried to escape the war and the fighting between the german and russian forces in a very cold winter with down to -25 degrees. Up to 250.000 german refugees ended up in camps in Denmark after the war for a couple of years between 1945-1949.

This is is one out of 34 cementaries, where all the german graves was gathered for easier maintenance, and making it possible for relatives to visit. "Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge" was the ones who paid for it, and still maintain the sites, sometimes with help from students.

Today i had to drive my son to the central airport in Billund Denmark, probably most known for "Lego" and "Lego Land", but it also host one of the larger airports in DK. We drove down to Billund very early around 5.45 as he had to catch an early plane. So i dropped him off after he entertained me all 175km, aka he was sleeping all the way.

Parking House at Bilund AirportBut finished with the deadline to catch a plane, i had ample time to take a few pictures going, back home to Aalbord, since i have Winter Vacation at the moment, and on the way down there i had noticed a couple of caterias, old grill bars along the old Route A13, which i thought looked interesting on a gray and rainy dayFirst stop was "Dørken Kiosk", which is named after a city close by, by that name. Funny anecdote, you also in Denmark say that you "Go in Dørken", meaning you go out cold, efter being drunk, or getting punched.
Its still an active place, and before the big highways came in Denmark, this would have been a prime location for a small eating spot, and for me growing up in a small city, this is what Grill Bars kiosks used to look like back in the 80'ties. But it starting to show its age. But you can find it on facebook, and they have food to go :)Second stop of the day was "Cafeteria Kroen", also a blast from the past, and also still serving danish classical food every da. Can also be rented for parties etc., and even has some huts that can be rented if you need to sleep or want to stay a few days. And hey just saw on the facebook page, that its for sale, so you want a piece of A13 classic, now is the time.Last stop of the day, that really was abandoned, from what i can guess and google, this used to be an old gas station, probably from an old local danish company called Metax that ran around 70 unmanned gas stations as some of the first. That was bought by Shell and renamed to Shell Express in 2007. Not totally sure about this one though !

Almost 5 years ago, one of the local schools in Nørresundby, Denmark was closed du to many different reasons. It had a bad reputation, so parents was placing the kids in other schools anyway, and it had to undergo a serious and expensive renovations, as toxic building materials has been used in the construction of the school back in the day. For some strange reason it still hosts the School Dentist, and that is still operating in a functioning wing of the school. Probably it will be moved when a new school is ready in 2025 (Its delayed, surprise :))

Today we took a walk there, to see how it fared.Its still closed down, and alarms & cameras are active around the school, so its not totally vandalized, but still its starting to look like something from a Zombie movie, not a place you want to be at night. But i find the decay pleasing in pictures in some way, probably why im into urbexing.Its pretty close to where i live, but i have never really visited until today, and hey i like the pictures i got, even on a grey february day.Righth next to the school we found this little bicycle training ground, that i despite living here for the last almost 20 year, never knew existed, but im going to visit it someday on my Mountain Bike ! :) It looks fun, small but fun. The good thing about a local photo walk, you find places.

Yesterday we were celebrating my fathers in laws 79 birthday, and by his wish we are in Aalborg (Denmark) Zoo for the turning on of the Christmas lights. I have not been in Zoo since the children was small, so did not really know what to expect, but just nearing the entrance, it quickly became apparent what we had in store.The Christmas spirit certainly quickly arrived with this spectacle, you would not know you were in zoo, but thinking you just have arrived in fairy land, but that was about to change quickly :)Christmas dinosaurs, i really was not expecting that :) but it was a a great spectacle, and we were just hit by the first snow they day before, so we had the perfect the setting for dinosaurs with a Christmas vibe in the snow :)

In the hospital tunnels in my hometown of Aalborg

A week back i needed something to for for a grey and rainy November weekend, and as many times before i had a walking agreement with a good friend. Luck has it, that he is working for Region Nord, which is the public institution, that runs the Hospitals, in the northern part of Denmark where i live, and he offered to show me some of the long tunnels beneath the hospitals, many of which was build many years ago.

Before i got to the hospital, i managed a few street photos, in the grey day day with a very flat and boring light.I arrived at the first hospital, where i meet up with my friend at the main entrance of the hospital, called Sygehus (Danish for hospital) Nord. Its an old hospital, that actually has been sold, but is still active, as the newly build hospital, is several years delayed. So we descend to the basement :)Just noticing the cellphone not allowed, you can see its not a never cellphone ! :), but the hospital is way older than cellphones! As you will probably see by the later pictures. I dont know why, but i have always been impressed with the long hallways of hospitals, there is something fascinating and scary about them at the same time.The first part we visited, was the locker rooms for the staff on a sideway to the long passages under ground, and it still reminds me of old pictures from the 70ties, but it has a nice vibe to it in someway.The halls are full of old equipment, thats to old to use, and to new to throw out as it might be needed in a emergency if newer stuff breaks down, and probably also a lot of stuff, that already should have been thrown out, seems like all the old computer stuffs turns beige with age, or maybe that was just the color scheme of those days.Next stop was under the old old blood donation bank, with all the scary red light coming up from the basement, quite an impressive old place, i had to use the wide angle on my phone for that shot, since my 23mm on my Fuji was simply not wide enough.We finished at another hospital in town, which as the pictures shows, is of a little bit newer date, and the tunnels were insanely long. The pictures with all the clothes, is behind the scenes on a vending machine for where staff goes to get their clothes for the workday.

And thus our hospital journey ended, and we went to grab some food ! :)

A grey november day in Aalborg

Today was nother gray november day, like most days in Denmark at this time of year, there is a reason that we really need our D-Vitamin ! :) On the northern hemissphere ! Its also very hard to make good pictures in that light i think.

Finally weekend, and time for a small photo walk through the town, its november in Denmark, and the dark arrives early in scandinavia.I like the early dark for pictures, but i dont like much for anything else :) Night starting at like 16.00 Hours is sapping some mental energy !

I had the issue of this blog, that it was created over many many years, with years of inactivity also, that many off the pictures were pretty large and not optimized for any web usage. Huge pictures of +15 megabyte takes a loong time to load on slower connections. There are at the current count 6750 pictures in a many different folders under the /upload folder in Wordpress. So getting to them one by one would take for ever. But at the moment im taking an online Python course, which i very much recommend by the way ! 100 days of code

So after some time on the course, it came to me that with the knowledge i have learned so far, and some searching on StackOverflow and Google i could couple something together myself with the help of the Python Pillow Library which has a lot of functions for manipulating images :)

So the pictures are now optimized, and you can find the script here https://github.com/anderskeis/PyCompress on my Github profile. Take a copy down of your /upload folder it Github and try on your own risk :) Do a backup before, IT WILL OVERWRITE YOUR PICTURES! it should ignore anything it cannot optimize. And then re upload to your blog again. Works with any pictures folder, but only tested it on Linux, so good luck :)

Well i needed i project to geek out on a little, cause i bought at little home NUC for my home, and needed a project for it, and i was tired of not having enough disk space on wordpress.com for my pictures for the blog. And i wanted to geek out a little and actually build something i likedThe specs for the little monster NUC is:

i7-10710U, 6 cores, 12 threads,
64GB RAM (2x32)
Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB (m.2) og Samsung SSD 960 EVO 2TB.And it now runs Proxmox for virtual Machines and Linux containers, and the moment i just run the a couple of Linux containers, and is connected to my old Synology, which runs InfluxDB and Grafana for metrics from the Proxmos System. And its all hooked up via Cloudfare for secure publication and easy access.So you might expect a little writeup/guide on how i set it up. Photo train trip part 4, Skagen

Last stop of the day, and the conclusion of our Photo Train trip, from Hjørring to Skagen :). We arrived to Skagen late afternoon, with daylight quickly fading,as it does here in Scandinavia in the wintertime. And even though the weather was grey, it was windy like h...., its still a nice experiece rolling into Skagen, through a beautiful landscape, where you know the sea is right behind the dunes. And you are greeted by the beautiful old train station in Skagen, which welcomes you to the city

I don't have many pictures from Skagen it self, it deserves a post and a day of Photo by it self, it is a beautiful old town, where the most of the houses in the city is kept in the old style, with yellow wall and red brick roofs. You can read about the town here on wikipedia. We just headed straight to there harbour, where there were some light. Old Skagen is actually famous for its "light" which has attracted many painters through the years. But this day we had grey and flat November light, so we headed towards the harbour, to get some lighting and perhaps a small dose of that famous light, and also the town itself was damn empty, corona+november+sunday is understandable not the most busy day of the year.

The harbour area, Skagen is a big fishing city, and it shows when you hit the harbour, the size of some of those boats... they are floating factories. It was grey, it was windy, so not the best photo weather, but still a good trip. My favourite picture is the first one, where i just took a quick shot in an empty auction hall (I guess that is what it was :) ).

We saw the light ! :) Just for a few minutes we saw the glow of the famous Skagen light!, or that is at least what we told our selves, cause it was the only light we saw ! he he.

That concluded our Photo train trip for this time, we just got a a warm cup of coffee on the harbour, and headed back to the train station, where we took the train back to Hjørring to pick up our cars.

Photo train trip part 3, Frederikshavn

Train Photo trip part 3. If you missed the first 2, you can see part 1, or part 2. Where you also get the short story behind the trip :)

Last station was Kvissel, and last me and Jim boarded the Train to Frederikshavn. I had changed film in the camera, and was now shooting the Leica M5 with some Lomography 400 film, one of my favourite films all around.

Arrival to Frederikshavn

We arrived to the city of Fredrikshavn around dinnertime, and that was the foremost thing in our head at the time, we were HUNGRY :) . So the first couple of shots, were us searching the town for something to eat on a sunday in a corona empty town, and getting a few good shots. Loved the sun hitting the green wall in the tunnel, but did under expose the picture a bit, the danger of spot metering the highlights.

After some dinner we to a trip to the harbour to get some pictures of a "real" working harbour. For me it was a bit down memory lane, as my dad used to work at the big Ship Yard(Called Danyard) there, before it closed down in 1999 and my father retired. There still is smaller ship yards and lot of repair working going on, so lots of life on the harbour, even a sunday in october :)

After that it was back to the station, and onward to our final destination Skagen, the most northern City in Denmark :) Cya in next post

Photo train trip part 2, Kvissel

It is sadly still Corona days, so when you take the train in Denmark, or any other kind of public transportation, mask is mandatory. This is my good Photo buddy Jim demonstrating how to look awesome for a corona times portrait (Leica M5, with 50mm Summicron + Kodak Ultramax 400). I really like the look of this!

Kvissel Train station, was the second stop of the trip. The light was not great, as usually in late autumn in Denmark, gray and flat. But we still had an awesome time taking pictures around the station. Kvissel is a small town with a population of around 395 people, so most of the town is centered around the station, which is probably also one of the things keeping this small sleepy town alive, cause not a lot was happening. Most of the pictures here are shot on the Leica M5, and a few on the Fujifilm X-100f.

Whats left of the doctors house, close to the station we found the old "Medical" house, where the town doctor used to live, the building was for sale, and i dont think a doctor is coming back to Kvissel any time soon. Fell for this litlle fellow who will be there for a long time in the waiting room, no kids are coming to play....

The town of Kvissel has seen better days, and the overall impresssion was of a small town, slowly dying. To many houses not being maintained.

The Church was probably the highlight of the town, a beautiful old Church that looked amazing in the autumn surroundings, and was very well maintained

Was fun to see Kvissel town, its not a place you would usually go, and that was the whole idea with that trip :) but after that it was back to the station and catch the train to our next destination Frederikshavn. Cya in the next post

Photo train trip part 1

In these times, you find what photo adventure you can locally. So i came up with the good idea(If you ask me :) ), for a photo train ride, from Hjørring to Skagen(The most northern city in Denmark). Get off at the small stations under way, take pictures for an hour, and then take the train to the next city. We could not cover all stations, but we got a couple, and then we have more for another trip!

I meet up with a good photo buddy, who agreed to accompany me for the day. I tried to pack small, and succeeded, if you ask me. I only brought my Leica M5 with a 50mm Summicron, loads of film, and a Fujifilm X-100F. Everyone know that you always need to bring a least two cameras, so that is as small as you can make it ! :)

We started out at Hjørring Train station at 9 in the morning on a sunday, obviously not the most busy time of the day. The first couple of pictures here is all shot with the X-100 F.

First stop of the day, was the small town of Tolne, not one of places that draws a lot of tourists. We took a walk round the town for a little hour, which probably is the maximum you can walk within the town. Not a town with a lot of life on the surface at least, and the highlight of the walk was finding the abandoned car you see in the pictures near the bottom. The majority of the pictures here are shot with the Leica M5 and some Expired Kodak 400.

After that, it was back to the station to catch the next train.

Recently i was on a Photo trip, with a bunch of Fuji people (I shoot Digital Fuji) to the southernmost part of Denmark called Falster, and in classic danish style, it RAINED a lot. But I love the look of the of that medium format film :) The girl who arranged the photo trip, generously allowed us to take pictures in her house and garden, while we sheltered from the rain.

A couple of weeks ago, I took a photo trip the the town of Hirtshals in the Northern part of Denmark with my good friend Bogdan. Hirtshals is known for fishing boats and ferries to Norway. But I never really took a walk around town there. So after a small search on google we found a nice 12km walk that took us around the town. I was shooting on my trusty Nikon F4s + 50mm, and had loaded some Fomapan 100 for the first post here.

First pictures are from the harbor areas, which is very industrial, not that exiting to walk in, but part of the route, so we walked it, and got some nice industrial pictures.

Lets admit it, part 2, which I will post later, is the scenic route ! But i really like the black and white film is these industrial settings. It kinda fits the theme :)

After the harbor, we reached an area still at the coast, with some old bunkers from World war 2. Those things were build to last, and there is a lot of them along the Danish west coats. And a little Hirtshals life at the local inn, and some random shots around town.

And hey, if there is a tunnel, you are obliged to make tunnel pictures, everyone knows that ! :) and thx to Bogdan for playing along as usual !

I actually think, that Fomapan 100 is my favorite B&W Budget movie, I like the ok fine grain, and some nice contrast (These have been boosted a little in post, as I overexposed a little to much) (I really dislike Fomapan 400, way to grainy for my taste) Have a great day, and stay safe

Foggy mornings on film

Thank you to my friend @Kaare Bak, who just did his piece on foggy mornings which you can see right here, it motivated me to write this small blogpost.

Autumn has arrived, and when you live close to the harbour, like i do. Some wonderful mornings are here. FOG mornings. First you wake up a bit early and look out the window, and see this. Sun is up, and the delicious fog is in the air.

You jump into your trousers, grap your camera, which i hope was the Leicaflex, but it might have been the Olympus MJU 2, not super sure. Scanned the film today, with a lot of other films, and my note taking skills seems to be lacking :). I like taking pictures, not notes ! :)

The short road to the harbor.

Im really not a morning person, i keep telling myself that, even though it wake up earlier and earlier each year. But such a morning is just a magic moment, the town is almost quiet, the light is fantastic, this is really mother nature showing her good side. And then you arrive at the water front, where you enter a fairy tale world of magic and light. Then i start believing in magic!

Roadtrip pictures with the Olympus MJU II + some Mobile :)

In late June i was on a road trip to a little photo walk arranged by some good people from the danish Fuji Group on Facebook( I shot analog and Henrik Shot Nikon, we just like pictures :)) . Next post will be about the photo walk itself.

But this is a short resume of how we got there. Me and the good Henrik you see in the pictures took the long scenic route down through Denmark, while the rain poured down all the way.

Around evening time, the hunger started gnawing, and Henrik found the perfect place for a First stop. We wanted a good old road Inn and we found it on Bregninge Kro (Kro means Inn in danish). Excellent place, that has not been renovated since the 80.... :) It was a total trip down Memory lane on hows Inns used to look, no fast food! but Cheap food, and plenty of it, if you enjoy the original danish food, thats a little on the traditional side :) The last picture is the danish National Course, "Stegt Flæsk and Persillesovs"

Next stop on the Road trip was in "Spodsbjerg" a little ferry town on "Langeland", where we had to spend some time waiting for a ferry on a gray and rainy day. Me and Henrik went a little crazy when we saw the colorful fish boxes on that gray day :) We had a blast, and i really love how the little Mju2 handled everything, its weather sealed, and i really dig how the the colors of the Lomo 400 film turned out in that gray dim light.

Last step on the road trip was the ferry to "Lolland", we could have taken the fast highway, but this was slow and authentic, and i loved every minute of it :)

I love the Olympus MJU 2 as a b-cam ! :) Stay safe out there !

A tale of Leica and wine

Recently i was out with a good photo buddy of mine, who you can find here http://www.kaarebak.dk/ amazing photographer!

And as all good days, it starts with wine. Just kidding :) But i was allowed to take some photos at https://quistwine.dk/ where Kim(The Owner) treated us to some small tasting of some fantastic wines, and yes i bought a case :). Its a great place, with some unique wines they import themselves (he and his wife), and the passion just shines through, he loves what he is doing. I love when you can feel that ! I love photography and cloud computing ! :)

We were supposed to shoot a lot more that day, but ended up spending a good amount of time, tasting some fantastic wine.

Troubleshooting a light leak in LeicaFlex SL

Not so long ago, a good old childhood friend, gifted me his fathers Leicaflex SL, with which i have shot quite a few rolls, it has always been plagued by intermittent light leaks, not consistent. So i have many great photos with out any light leakage. You can see the error in the picture, its pretty consistent, but varies a lot in how much it affects the picture.

I posted the above pictures in several different Facebook groups, and got some good advice on howto approach it with logic. As you can see on the negative below, the light leakage stops at the sprockets, and that actually tells us that the light leak comes from the front the film/camera. If it had come from the back, the sprocket would also have been colored.

Next step was finding out why it only happened sometimes.... Another Facebook group, and another answer from an old camera dealer, who suggested i looked at the "second" curtain, meaning that one thats there when you cock the shutter on the camera, and voila we have our culprit :) So if i have the shutter cocked long before the taking the shot, it slowly builds up. Elementary my dear Watson ! But did not find so much info about it, so thought i would write this blogpost, hope you found it useful.Next step is figuring out how to fix it, have some ideas, that will come in another blogpost! :) Stay safe out there.

I recently acquired the Olympus MJU II, cause i really really wanted to! ;) and sometimes that is plenty reason(If you dont ask the wife! :) ). And recently i finally got to test it out in the real world, while exploring an old abandoned school in my hometown of Aalborg, Denmark. It is absolutely a very hyped camera, but it does really take good pictures and also under difficult lighting conditions.

That special time in a mans life, when you discover you have to many cameras :). I love my Pentax , but i bought to many cameras, and something has to go, and with that lens, its REALLY Heavy. I love the picture quality it delivers, but as many others i'm not fan of the button controls. They work fine, but they are not fast or intuitive. When you first pick it up, you might think its broken, because you are not able to change a lot of settings. Then you start googling, until you find a blog post like this, that tells you that you need a film loaded to change a lot of the settings.

I actually just sold it, so this is my goodbye pictures :) Shot with a bit of black card board as background, and a single soft box on my Fuji film X-H1. And i am actually pretty happy with the result. Farewell my beautiful Pentax 645 and my heavy 80-160 zoom :)

Rebild bakker is one of the most beautiful places in Denmark, and well worth a visit if you ever find yourself in Northern Jutland Denmark. I had not been there in ages, and decided it was time for a little hike through the hills to enjoy the scenery in "Golden Hour". And i thought, what can be better for a hike, than bringing my heaviest cameras, yes "plural". So i Brought my Bronica SQ-Ai with 150mm Lens, which i just got a new SQ-A house for, and lets just say, i left that one in the car, after it got stuck after a couple of shots..........and the other backup camera i brought was my Pentax 645 with the GINORMOUS 80-160(Im danish, im excused for making up english words). But see the picture down below, where i lined it up next to my Fujifilm X-100f :). Its a monster, but it usually delivers ! And the 80-160 its the only lens i have for it, so it could probably be a lot smaller with a prime, plus its actually a really good workout in these covid19 times, where the fitness centers are closed.I brought several rolls of film to test something different, so i brought Portra 400, Fuji Pro 400H, Lomography 100 and some Fomapan 400. I have added picures from the different films below, so you can see for yourself. And now for some Portra 400 shots, all taken with the heavy Pentax 645, which i lugged around these beautiful hills, while huffing and puffing :)

Next up we have the Fuji pro 400H, shot on the same heavy gear :)

And almost finally we have a few shots from the Lomograpy 100 120 film, i actually like that film quite a lot, its a good cheap alternative to the more expensive Portra/Fuji series, making it accessible to most people! :)

And finally we have the Fomapan 400, the only black and white guest film of the day. Im not especially fond of Fomapan 400 for landscape, and the pictures below did not change that opinion, it just gets to grainy for my taste. Might be me doing something wrong in the development, it like Fomapan for gritty street and portrait, but not for landscape.

A couple of weeks ago, it was up in a town called Sæby, on the North East part of Jutland, Denmark. That is where my parents live , and they needed some help around the house, And that was a good excuse for a road trip, i took the long scenic route around along the water.

I also needed an excuse to test out my new Leicaflex SL, that a childhood friend gave me, i will tell that story later. I also started rolling my own film, hence the light leaks you see, had a little mishap with the bulk loader. But now i think i have it under control :)

My all time favorite camera, is the handy little X-100F camera from Fujifilm, its the camera i bring everywhere i go, family trips, shopping, for a walk, our out for beer with friends (Remember we used to do that.... ;( ) The best camera is the one you have with you, and as much as i like my big medium format film cameras, they are not always practical.

Picture from a family outing to a local forest area called Lundby Krat, with some nice hilly hiking routes. And not many people, which is essential in these times! Stay safe out there!

Morning walk in Noerresundby with expired film (Agfa Vista 400)

Digging in to my to-do list on film scanning :) (Scanned 5, only missing to scan 20 more!). So this popped up last night, a morning walk with a good photo friend to experience the fantastic morning light. I was shooting my trusty Nikon F4, with a nifty fifty, and some expired Agfa Vista 400 from 20003. These pictures are pretty much straight out of the scanner, scanned with the Agfa Vista 400 profile in Silverfast, and a small exposure adjustment (was slightly overexposed, but i always do that with film).

The film is a 400 speed but, but it was shot at 100, 2 stops over exposed. 1 Stop would have been enough i think, but better safe than sorry, and i like the result, it has the film look i like, This is almost my last roll of that film, and im gonna miss it!

Trip to Fosdal and Langdal in Tranum, Denmark with the X-Pro1

If you ever come to the northern part of Denmark, and you want to hike, and see some of the most beautiful nature in Denmark, there is some great trails to wander here, and its only gets prettier as we move into spring :). Thats what i did with a photo buddy the other day, we walked the +11 kilometre red route, which is absolutely beautiful. But be prepared, bring water, and be comfortable with steep climbs, but the rewards are great.

All shot with the ancient X-pro1 + 18-135 Fujinon. But i still think they product great results for an almost 8 year old camera, sometimes makes you wonder why you alwas have G.A.S for new gear.

I'm pretty fascinated with how over exposed Portra 400 look on film, and i have been experimenting with how, i get that look on of my Fuji cameras (It might work on other brands, have not tested) . Its not a total replica, and you cannot just take any image and apply it, but it helps with some settings, if you provide an image that has the right lighting.

First download the v1 here or v2 here(Google how to install a preset)
Shoot a slightly overexposed images 1/2-1 stop depending on light, works best with objects in sunlight
Morning light is just better :)
Import the image to Lightroom, i adjust the base image to Fuji Chrome, so that is the base for the preset.
Apply the preset, and adjust to your image.

Vestre fjordpark on X-Pro1 and X100f

Vestre fjordpark, or the old new name "Friluftsbadet" which means something like free air bath. Right now its almost drained on seawater, while getting cleaned for the new season. The area is a iconic part of Aalborgs history, where many daredevils took the first step onto the awe inspiring 10 meter jump, both legal at at day, and illegal at night.

It all started in 1930, where some sand was pumped out into the "Limfjord", and some floating bathing bridges, a restaurant and some ice cream sale was established as recreation for the common people of Aalborg. The area was called poor mans Blokhus (A popular bathing town on the northwest coast of Denmark). Just before world war 2, some new piers was planned, and a filter system, to separate out the pretty polluted water of the Limjord, from the bathing facilities. That plan was stopped by the war.

During the war, the area was used as an airfield by the Germans, and runways, and a lots of bunkers was established in the area, which are most still there. Rumor has it, they tried to demolish a bunker with explosives, but after the explosion, the bunker still stood fine, but there were no whole windows left in the neighborhood, so they are still here just covered by sand and dirt. There is a single hangar left, and a small area around it, which now houses Aalborg Defence- and Garrison museum. I'll do a post from there another day.

In 1947 the "Friluftsbadet" was finally initiated, and has been in use ever since, and has been through several renovations, the latest in 2017. And these days the Limjord is clean again, and you are able to take a swim directly in fjord. Which a lot of winter bathers do. Visiting in the summer or winter time, there is always time for a swim.

If you ever find your self in Aalborg, in the northern part of Jutland, you should do yourself the favor and visit "Fjordbyen". Its a funny little place, where there is room for everybody. Its a small gathering of small home build cottages, where the only rule is, if you can agree with your neighbor, you can build it. That rule has resulted in some truly spectacular buildings. Its a place where there is room for everyone. Enjoy and stay safe!

Was just sitting here thinking about photo projects... Haven't really done any of of those yet, still struggling to find a subject that i actually find worthy of a project, or at least can keep me interested for some amount of time. Just a quick stroll through the corona empty city where i live. The night before there was a big storm, and as you can see on the waves, it has not totally died down yet. So strong wind, and fantastic morning light, made for a good start on the day. A good beginning before working from home in these corona days.

A small but positive outcome from corona is not spending 2 1/2 - 3 hours commuting pr. day. Stay safe out there.

There is just something about cyan blue that I really really like. This is the entrance to a parking lot in Aalborg, Denmark. Under the "house of music", a local culture hotspot. Sometimes its just fun to take a walk, and try something new, or in this case, something old, and see how it works out. Thats what I did, with a couple some rolls of expired film

A couple of rolls of Kodacolor VR Plus 200, damn that is a long name for a film :). Which I acquired on a facebook group in Denmark. I shot the film at ISO64, after rule 1 stop per decade(ish). The roll is shot over a couple of days, and its fun to see how it reacts in the different type of light, but it was a fun distraction from everyday life right now. And I enjoyed the process, and the pictures, or the ones posted here, came out "ok", not mind shattering good, but ok. Enjoy.

Another day, another day with new images. This is actually some of my favorite images shot on film. Its a damn weird place. Its placed in a small forest, close to a larger road near Aalborg, Denmark, but its really hard to see from the road. I knew it was supposed to be there, but we still managed to miss it a couple of times. If there was leaves on the trees we would never have found it.

I don't know the story behind the place, I tried finding some information online, but no luck. Looks like some hermit used to live there perhaps, but it is in total ruin now. A couple of rusted camping wagons, a small totally trashed shed, and then a whole lot of rusted beetles.

Pictures all shot on my untrusty Bronica SQ-AI + My first real try with Fuji Pro 400h. Developed at lab, and scanned at home on my Epson 550.

Film Learnings: This is an amazing film, color, details and grain is just out of this world. You know why its a "Premium" film. This is a 400 Film, but I shot it at 200, after good advice

If I could afford it, this would be one of my go to films, but for now, I'm saving the rest, for a some special occasion! :) But Damnnnnnn its good.

Another day, another blogpost, lets see how long I can hold that up that pace. But that's ok, I write this because I love taking pictures of any kind, and I like experimenting with many different kinds of camera gear, cause I'm a G.A.S driven nerd! I love both the tools and the output, and in my world that goes fine hand in hand.

This "pretty" plant is called "Nordjyllands Værket" located at the coast of "Limfjorden" in the northern part of Jutland, Denmark. Its the local power/heating plant, combined running mostly on coal ;( , and its the main theme of this little photo excursion.

Below you will find a collection of pictures from the day. All taken with the Bronica and Lomography 800. **Learnings:** I have not tried the 120 version in tungsten light, but the 35mm version gets a greenish cast, that I find rather cool, but absolutely not natural colors. Another thing to watch out for is light leaks with this film, you really have to roll it up tight when you are done, and keep it in a dark place to avoid them. I quite like the muted colorcast and the nice controlled grain, and details are pretty good. Its not as good as Portra 400/800 or Fujis pro series, but its nice with a highspeed film that is actually affordable. If you can get it that is, its sold out everywhere I have access to.

Talk about a day, where things go, not really as intended. Sitting here a Saturday evening in March, scanning negatives from January, cause things in analog photography takes the time it takes, enjoying a cold beer, and remembering a special day, as you do when you get your photo memories developed.This was one day, I will remember for quite some time, cause a lot of things did not go totally as expected, but the main lesson is, always bring more cameras, and bring a sturdy backpack!

On a cold and windy day in January, but sunny! The sun has been a very limited and rationed thing this winter, mostly flat gray light, and a whole lot of rain, not a single day with snow :( Guessing that global warming really is a thing. Well long story short, sun was shining, quickly arranged a photo trip to Løkken, which is a bathing town, at the west coast of Denmark way up north in Jutland. Its super popular in the summer, with a lot of people on the beach, but here in winter, not much is happening. But still awesome nature, so me and a photo friend grabbed some gear and headed north to make the most of the sun. Approx. 45 minute drive from my hometown of Aalborg.I packed 3 cameras for the trip, cause I can ! :) 1 Film Medium format Bronica SQ-AI with a 150mm lens, One Film Pentax Espio 115 point and shoot and one digital Fujifilm X-pro1 with a 18-135mm lens. It was a windy day, and I really wanted to get some shots of waves hitting the pier if possible, on my Bronica.

We got up there, it was windy, cold, but there was light ohh joy ! :) I just wanted to do some test shots on the beach with the Bronica. I got it out of the bag, put it on my small manfrotto pixi tripod and lined up for some great shots.....Advanced the film, removed the dark slide, that i always forget.... Press the shutter.. Which DID NOT say the usual ..CLONK..SOUND :). And it was stuck, could not get it working again with no tools. I really love the pictures from that camera, but its not my most stable camera....

Well as the professional amateur I am, I still had two cameras. My Point and Shoot Espio 115 loaded up with Lomography 100, and My X-Pro1.

I had the X-Pro1 in hand, and the rest in my beloved Peak Design backpack. We went out to the pier, you can see in the pictures below, and it was real wet, and as I found out, very slippery also. I was walking on the elevated concrete, trying to get some nice wave shots. Out at the end I jumped down to the pier, and instantly slipped on super slippery algae covered pier, banging my tailbone directly in to the concrete, smashing the lens hood on my 18-135, and covering the X-Pro1 in salty wet sand. But the lens hood took the brute of the blow together with my tailbone, and the Peak Design back pack, which prevented my head from hammering into the concrete, so I actually think my bag, saved my life, how many can say that about their backpack!The good thing is that here almost 2 months later, I can hardly feel it anymore, but that took a while!

Now there was 1 camera left! My Crappy Point and Shoot Espio, loaded with Lomography 100. So the majority of the pictures (the first 16)(Last ones from the X-Pro1) is from that backup camera, which ended up being my main camera for the day.

I really like the color rendition that the Lomography 100 provides, it is a cheap film, but I actually like the the result quite a lot, I have some more scans to do, where I shot the film on a Nikon F4. I looking forward to comparing the quality, and see how much the camera/lens affects the picture.

That was the tale(Plus one tail ;) ) of 3 cameras in Løkken ! Always bring more cameras! The story has a happy ending and all cameras are working fine again!

Analogue trip to "The Horse shoe"

Finally got some pictures developed from a small excursion to a place named as in the head line, "The Horse shoe" i have no idea why its called that. But its a small weird place, nudged in between large power plant across the water, and large industry on both side. Its located on the coast of the "Limjord" in the nothern part of Denmark, near my hometown of Aalborg.

But its a small piece of nature in between all the industrial ugliness where people can access a small beach with good swimming possibilities. There is even an official snorkel lane, under the water. There is a lot of both small cottages, and great modern looking summerhouses in a small cluster of house in the middle.

Pictures are from January i think, just got them scanned now, but there is no exif with film :) But its shot on Spotmatic f + Fujifilm Superia 400 home scanned on Epson V550

Its a weird world these days, and for +2 weeks i have been working from home, im lucky i can ! I usually pendle around 3 hours a day. But these days i have time to go out in the morning before work, and enjoy the insanely good light and weather we have been blessed with after a long wet and gray winter. So there some small good things about it. Stay safe !

Pushed Portra 400 look on Fuji files

I love the look you get from Portra 400 when you overexpose it a stop or so on a sunny day, i love the slightly washed out colors, and the overall look, but its hard to acquire the film, and its damn expensive! So i have been experimenting in Lightroom to get that look on my fuji files (X100F, X-T2, X-Pro1), which are my all time favorite digital cameras. This is the first time i actually succeeded, well at least in my own opinion. Still waiting for a roll of the "real" stuff to compare. But its on the way, but until then i glad for my digital "fall back" solution,

The abandoned peat factory

Todays expedition went to an old Peat factory in the Northern part of Jutland in Denmark, its actually on the Kommunes homepage for tourists

Kaas Briketfabrik (patent fuel) was builded in 1925 in the moor of Lundergaard.
Ib Nyboe got the idea to make hard pressed briquettes, which was more profitable to carry across bigger areas. During 2. World War, as the factory was producing at highest level, about 600 men worked in the factory.
In April 1966 the factory closed, because of crossing to other forms of fuel and lack of moorearth.

Its a place with quite a history, and 2 men were killed in a big explosion in 1933, and its a big part of the small town, even here, almost 100 years later. Its a place where you should be very cautious, it can fall down around you, and lots of tricky holes in floors and walls. But its a dream place for a photographer with a passion for abandoned places.

After a long week working from home, and staying away from other people than my family, me and the camera took a much needed photon break at the sea. The place is a small coast town, or more a small gathering of summer houses called Rødhus, placed on the west coast of Denmark. At great place, and awesome beach. The pictures show some telltale signs that I'm participating in a Corona Photo Marathon (a Picture a day, while it lasts), and todays subject was "Spor" which is danish for "Tracks" one of those words that can mean many things.

But i got out ! And the weather was great, stay safe out there !

A little more architecture from Aalborg, mostly taken from a new parking house, in the middle of thousands of new apartments shooting up on the old industrial harbor front. The green silo is one of the last vestiges of the old factories, and its actually still in use until 2025, its being used for storing fly ash for the energy companies, and my opinion it still looks pretty nice, in gonna enjoy it for the next 5 years, where they will probably tear it down.

A late Christmas for the Utzon House

In the city of Aalborg we have our bit of Jørn Utzon, the famous danish architect behind the Sidney Opera House. In little Aalborg in Denmark we have his last piece of splendid arhcitecture, decorating the harbour front. From wikipedia:

The Utzon Center in Aalborg, Denmark, was the last building to be designed by Jørn Utzon, the architect behind the Sydney Opera House. In collaboration with his son Kim who provided the final construction drawings, he planned the centre not as a museum but as a place where students of architecture could meet and discuss their ideas for the future.^[1] Located on the Limfjord waterfront in the city where Utzon spent his childhood, the building was completed in 2008, the year Utzon died.

This Christmas, it was decided to spread a little Christmas mood, so red projectors was installed on the roof in December 2019 to spread a little Christmas joy. And in my opinion it looks awesome :) at least from a photographers perspective. A little bit of long exposure of 2 different evenings, one with Fujifilm X-100f (The first two) and Fujifilm X-T2 (The last 3)

Photo walk i Noerresundby

Was out recently with a photo buddy, to make some good use of a quiet saturday with great weather (Sun and good weather have been in great demand this gray wet winter) , in my hometown of Noerresundby, Denmark. There was no plan, just get out and shoot some pictures.

I was shooting both my medium format Bronica SQ-AI and my trusty Fujifilm X100f. The shots in this small gallery is all from the X100F, the shots from the Bronica, will come at some point :) Thats the good and bad thing about analog photography, it takes the time it takes, and thats fine with me. The pictures are most suburban architecture. P.S i really like old decayed places :)

Vaerket - Street art gallery in decay - Kentmere 400

A little look at the local street art gallery in Nørresundby where i live, that closed a couple of years ago, and since have gone very much down hill sadly, but still very photogenic in my eyes. Guessing it will be torn down soon. I found the following description of the site online, it only reached to be open a year or so i think, before it became to hazardous. But there was some spectacular street art in that short intense period.

"Since we opened in August of 2016, Værket has continued to offer street artists a creative space to experiment, refine and showcase their craft for the community. Sheltered from the elements, in the heart of Nørresundby, guests can always expect something new upon every visit. Through MAK:VRK, Værket is able to offer courses and workshops, in our open facilities, where anyone with an idea and a spray can are welcome to try your hands at spray painting. A truly unique space for those who finds themselves interested in experiencing the local street art culture"

This is the first series i shot some weeks ago, but just got around to developing now. Its shot on my Nikon F4 + 50mm 1.8+ Kentmere 400 which is my favourite budget BW film. It goes great with this kind of scenarie, where things are close.

I just did a follow up session in color with my medium format Bronica SQ-Ai, that i will post in a couple of weeks, when i get it developed :)
